Session began with tributes on the anniversary of the Quit India Movement
The day began in both houses of Parliament with tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, and other freedom fighters on the 83rd anniversary of the Quit India Movement. In addition, former Governor Satyapal Malik, who recently passed away, was also commemorated in the Lok Sabha.
Proceedings disrupted in Lok Sabha due to uproar
As soon as the proceedings began in the Lok Sabha, opposition parties started raising their voices regarding the SIR in Bihar. The House proceedings had to be adjourned twice due to this issue. When the meeting resumed at 3:00 PM, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman sought permission to withdraw the Income Tax Bill 2025. With the consent of the House, the government withdrew the bill.
Opposition also blocked 'non-governmental business' on Friday
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the non-governmental business that takes place on Fridays is mainly for the opposition MPs, but today the opposition disrupted that as well. He said that the government is ready to discuss every issue, but this behavior of the opposition is unfortunate. Rijiju also said that in the future, the opposition should not say that the government was running away from discussions.
Rajya Sabha proceedings also disrupted by uproar
In the Rajya Sabha as well, the opposition demanded a discussion on the revision process of the voter list in Bihar. However, Deputy Chairman Harivansh stated that he had received 20 notices under Rule 267, but they were not found to be admissible according to the rules. After this, the opposition continued the uproar, due to which the Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day at 12:03 PM after one adjournment.
Loss of 56 hours and 49 minutes so far
Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh informed the House that a total of 56 hours and 49 minutes have been lost so far in this session due to the uproar. This shows that confrontational politics is dominating in Parliament instead of systematic discussion.
Income of 34.13 crore from "Mann Ki Baat"
In response to a question asked in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan informed that a total income of ₹34.13 crore has been generated so far from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's radio program "Mann Ki Baat". This program is prepared from the existing resources of All India Radio without any additional expenditure.
India keeping an eye on China's dam project on the Brahmaputra
Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh informed the Rajya Sabha that India has taken cognizance of reports of China undertaking construction of a large dam project on the lower reaches of the Brahmaputra River (known as Yarlung Tsangpo) in Tibet. He stated that this project was first made public in 1986, and preparations for it have been underway in China for a long time.
