PM Narendra Modi gifted Bihar projects worth ₹7217 crore from Motihari. The strategy to strengthen hold again on 21 assembly seats of East and West Champaran under Mission Champaran has come to the fore.
PM Modi Bihar Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again put his full strength into the politics of Bihar. On Friday, he gifted projects worth ₹7217 crore from Motihari, attempting to consolidate the BJP's bhold of Champaran once again. This visit by PM Modi ahead of the assembly election fervor is considered politically significant.
Gift of projects worth ₹7217 crore
At the event held in Motihari, the Prime Minister initiated several projects for the state, including roads, railways, and housing. On this occasion, the PM said that it is a historic day for the development of Bihar. The Prime Minister also flagged off four Amrit Bharat trains, two of which will pass through the DDU division. Besides, the PM also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for projects related to IT, startups, and connectivity.
Electoral message from the public meeting
In Motihari, the Prime Minister also addressed a large public meeting, in which he mentioned the central government's development schemes, trying to prepare the ground for the BJP's return to power in the state. From this platform, he also targeted the opposition, saying that previous governments had neglected Bihar.
Political importance of Champaran belt
The Champaran region has been a b bhold of the BJP in Bihar. East Champaran and West Champaran together have a total of 21 assembly seats. In the 2020 assembly elections, 17 of these seats went to the NDA. Among these, the BJP won 15 and the JDU won 2 seats. East Champaran has a total of 12 assembly seats, out of which the NDA holds 9, while the RJD has 3 seats. On the other hand, the NDA won 8 out of the 9 seats in West Champaran.
Why is starting from Motihari special?
Motihari is considered the headquarters of East Champaran district. This area is not only geographically but also politically important. This region is also adjacent to the Nepal border, which increases its strategic role. By starting the election campaign from here, PM Modi has made it clear that the BJP is aiming to bring all 21 seats of Champaran into its account once again.
Focus on the seats lost
This visit of PM Modi is not limited to only those seats that the BJP has been winning. Rather, special attention is being paid to the four seats that were lost in 2020. The BJP is working on a strategy to field b candidates and intensify the campaign in these seats.
Nitish Kumar's role
In 2020, the BJP directly benefited from Nitish Kumar being in the NDA. But in 2015, the party suffered a loss due to his separation. In the 2015 elections, only 10 out of the 21 seats in the Champaran belt went to the NDA, while the remaining seats were won by the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan).
In 2020, the BJP's position improved with Nitish Kumar rejoining the NDA, and it won 15 seats. Now, it remains to be seen how much Nitish Kumar's current political position benefits the NDA.
Vote share mathematics
In the 2015 assembly elections, the BJP got 23.5 percent votes in the Champaran belt, while the RJD got 20.5 percent and the JDU got 18.2 percent. In 2020, the BJP's vote share increased to 25.8 percent, and the JDU got 20.1 percent votes. Among the constituents of the Grand Alliance, the RJD got 23.1 percent and the Congress got 9.2 percent votes. CPI (ML) got 7.5 percent votes.
Central government schemes become the basis
PM Modi has so far gifted Bihar schemes worth more than ₹80000 crore. Continuous public meetings and development schemes from Patna to Siwan, Madhubani, and now Motihari, indicate that the central government is fully committed to bringing the state into the mainstream of development.
During the Motihari visit, PM Modi transferred ₹162 crore to 40000 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural). Along with this, 'Griha Pravesh' (housewarming) was conducted for 12000 beneficiaries, out of which the Prime Minister himself handed over the keys to five beneficiaries.
Strategy to create an environment before the elections
This visit of PM Modi is the fifth Bihar visit of this year. From April to July, every month, the Prime Minister is reaching some corner of the state and conducting development schemes and public meetings. It is clear that the BJP has now entered election mode, and starting it from Champaran is strategically important.
