PM Modi Visits Manipur, Emphasizing Peace and ₹8,500 Crore Development Push

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Manipur today, September 13, 2025. This is his first visit to Manipur since the ethnic violence erupted there two years ago in 2023. This visit of the Prime Minister is significant for conveying a message of peace and reconstruction during a sensitive time.

PM Modi in Manipur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a visit to Manipur today, September 13. This will be his first visit to Manipur since the ethnic violence erupted in 2023, two years ago. During this visit, he will meet internally displaced people in Churachandpur and Imphal and listen to their problems. Additionally, the Prime Minister will present development projects worth ₹8,500 crore to the people of Manipur and inaugurate several important schemes. This visit is considered significant in promoting peace, rehabilitation, and development in the state.

Will interact with those affected by violence

The Prime Minister will reach Churachandpur, a Kuki-Zo majority area, around 12:30 PM, where he will interact with people displaced by the violence. After that, he will reach Imphal around 2:30 PM and meet displaced individuals residing in relief camps in the Meitei-majority valley. Due to the conflict between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities in Manipur, over 280 relief camps are operational across the state, where approximately 57,000 people are living as displaced individuals.

This visit of the Prime Minister comes amidst criticisms that the central government had not paid adequate attention to the complex situation in Manipur. Now, the Prime Minister's direct interaction is considered a crucial step towards accelerating the peace process and restoring trust among the affected communities.

Development Projects Worth ₹8,500 Crore

Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several projects for the inclusive development of Manipur. In Churachandpur, he will initiate projects worth over ₹7,300 crore, while in Imphal, he will inaugurate projects worth over ₹1,200 crore. Key schemes include:

  • Manipur Infotech Development (MIND) Project – Expansion in the digital and technical sector at a cost of ₹550 crore.
  • Drainage and Asset Management Improvement Project – Modernization of infrastructure at a cost of ₹3,647 crore.
  • Manipur Police Headquarters, Mantripukhri – Modern security infrastructure at a cost of ₹101 crore.
  • Civil Secretariat, Mantripukhri – Administrative structure built at a cost of ₹538 crore.

These projects aim not only at rehabilitation but also at ensuring long-term economic development, education, health, security, and administrative reforms.

Assam, Bihar, and Bengal to also receive gifts

After his visit to Manipur, the Prime Minister will also launch several schemes in Assam, Bihar, and West Bengal. On Saturday evening, he will attend the centenary celebration of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika in Guwahati. Following this, he will inaugurate a joint conference of military commanders in Bengal and launch the Makhana Board in Bihar.

On September 14, the Prime Minister will inaugurate projects worth over ₹18,530 crore in Assam. These include the Darrang Medical College and Hospital, GNM School, B.Sc. Nursing College, and the Assam Bioethanol Plant at Numaligarh Refinery. On September 15, he will address military leadership by inaugurating the 16th Combined Commanders' Conference in Kolkata. This conference will run from September 15 to 17 and will serve as a platform for strategic dialogue to strengthen India's security apparatus.
