This increase, based on the fitment factor and inflation, will strengthen the financial position of employees and make government jobs more attractive.

Increase in Salary for Postal Department Clerks: Under the 8th Pay Commission, expected to be implemented in 2026, clerks in the Postal Department may see a substantial increase in their basic and in-hand salaries. Currently, a clerk in Level-2 has a basic salary of Rs 19,900 and a total in-hand salary of approximately Rs 37,000–39,000. With a projected fitment factor of 2.86, their in-hand salary could reach Rs 56,000 or more after the 8th Pay Commission. This increment will enhance employees' financial stability and improve their standard of living.

Basic and In-Hand Salary

A clerk in the Postal Department falls under Level-2 of the pay matrix, with a fixed Grade Pay of Rs 1900. According to the 7th Pay Commission, the clerk's basic salary is Rs 19,900. Adding DA, HRA, TA, and departmental allowances, the in-hand salary ranges approximately from Rs 37,120 to Rs 39,370. Fitment Factor and Salary Determination

The fitment factor plays a crucial role in determining increments in government salaries. It is viewed as a multiplier that calculates the new salary by combining basic salary, inflation, employee needs, and government financial capacity. In the 7th Pay Commission, this factor was 2.57.

Through the fitment factor, the new salary of a Postal Department clerk is calculated based on their basic salary and allowances. The objective is to harmonize the salary with the employees' lifestyle and expenses.

Salary Increase After 8th Pay Commission

The 8th Pay Commission is expected to be implemented from 2026. According to preliminary estimates, the fitment factor could be up to 2.86. Following this, an increase of approximately Rs 36,000–37,000 is possible in the clerk's basic salary, which could push the in-hand salary to Rs 56,000 or more.

This increment will strengthen the financial position of Postal Department employees and provide them relief from the effects of inflation. Furthermore, it will also increase the attractiveness of government jobs for employees.
