Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate on Tuesday in the G7 Summit being held in Evian, France, where leaders of the world’s major economies and partner countries are set to discuss global challenges.
The visit, taking place at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, reflects India’s expanding global role and its contribution to key international issues. During the summit, Modi is also scheduled to hold several bilateral meetings, including discussions with the leaders of Canada, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.
The theme of this year’s G7 Summit is “Building New Partnerships and Restoring International Solidarity.” In addition to G7 member countries, representatives of several partner nations and international financial institutions are participating in the gathering. Key topics on the agenda include the global economy, artificial intelligence (AI), climate change, energy security, global supply chains and geopolitical challenges.
India’s participation marks its 13th appearance at the G7 Summit, while Prime Minister Modi is attending the forum for the seventh consecutive time. Although India is not a formal member of the G7, its role has continued to strengthen as one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies and as a voice of the Global South.
Experts say India has emerged as an important partner on issues such as global economic stability, digital transformation, clean energy and supply chain diversification. As a result, India’s strategic and economic cooperation with G7 countries has continued to expand.
Trade, investment and technology cooperation between India and European countries have increased significantly in recent years. Efforts are ongoing to advance collaboration between India and its European partners in areas including free trade, digital innovation and artificial intelligence. India’s active participation in innovation initiatives in France and partnerships in emerging technologies indicate a shared interest in cooperating on future economic and technological development.
On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with several world leaders. Meetings have been proposed with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Discussions are expected to cover trade, investment, defence cooperation, energy security, clean technology, education, and regional and global security.
Analysts believe these discussions could play an important role in strengthening India’s relations with key global partners. Prime Minister Modi will also attend an official dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, providing an opportunity for informal interactions among leaders from different countries.
