The court granted Shaw a final opportunity to file his response in the case and adjourned the hearing until December 16.
When did the controversy begin?
The incident dates back to February 2023, when a dispute occurred between Prithvi Shaw and Sapna Gill at a pub in the Andheri area of Mumbai. An argument erupted between the two over taking a selfie, after which Shaw faced assault charges, and some individuals were arrested. A video of the incident went viral on social media.
Sapna Gill attempted to file a complaint with the police regarding this matter, but an FIR was not registered. Subsequently, she approached the magistrate court and filed a petition.
Court expresses displeasure
The court expressed its displeasure over Prithvi Shaw's consistent failure to respond. The court had given him time to file a response from February to June. On June 13, the court granted Shaw a final chance to file his response, but he did not submit any reply to the court. Due to this, on September 9, 2025, the court fined Shaw ₹100 and ordered him to file his response in the case. The court clearly stated that further legal action would be taken if a response was not received.
Along with the fine, the court gave Shaw another opportunity to present his side of the story. The court has set the next date for the hearing as December 16, 2025. During this period, both parties will present their arguments. Sapna Gill had alleged in her petition that Shaw harassed her during the incident in February 2023. She sought justice from the court and pleaded to compel Shaw to respond in this matter.
