Congress MP Rahul Gandhi accused of vote theft in Aland, Karnataka, during a press conference. He cited the example of 12 votes deleted in the name of Godabai. Dalit and OBC voters were targeted.
New Delhi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi began his press conference by stating that he would not say anything that wasn't true. He explained that he loves his country, its constitution, and its democratic process, and it is his duty to protect them. Rahul clarified that his discussion was based entirely on solid evidence.
Allegations of Vote Theft
Rahul Gandhi claimed that votes were manipulated in Karnataka's Aland assembly constituency using fake logins. He stated that booths where the Congress party was winning were targeted in this process. Rahul said that a total of 6018 votes were attempted to be deleted. He also mentioned that the actual number could be higher, but this specific figure was caught by chance.
The Example of Godabai
In this context, Rahul Gandhi gave the example of a woman named Godabai. He stated that someone created a fake login in Godabai's name and attempted to delete 12 votes, while Godabai herself had no knowledge of it. This incident demonstrates that the vote deletion process was completely hidden and the system had been hijacked.
Information from Booth Officers and Neighbors
Rahul explained that a booth-level officer noticed that a woman's uncle's vote had been deleted. Upon investigation, it was found that a neighbor had deleted their vote. When the neighbor was asked, they stated that they had not deleted any vote. This implies that both the person who deleted the vote and the person who lost the vote were unaware. This entire process was hijacked by a third party.
Targeting Dalit and OBC Voters
Rahul Gandhi claimed that the primary target of this vote theft was Congress party voters. Specifically, voters from the Dalit and OBC communities were targeted. Their names were systematically removed from the voter list to weaken Congress's electoral prospects.
Evidence Presented at the Press Conference
Rahul also presented evidence of vote theft through a presentation at the press conference. He explained that the process of fake logins and vote deletions occurred at the booth level. Rahul further stated that such attempts weaken the democratic process and require international monitoring.
Allegations Against the Election Commission
This is Rahul Gandhi's second press conference concerning vote theft. Previously, on August 7, he had accused the Election Commission during a press conference of colluding with the BJP in vote theft. Rahul had then stated that the Election Commission was not impartial in this matter and failed to protect voters' rights.
