Rahul Gandhi's 'Imaginary Ram' Remark: Court Hearing Adjourned

A court hearing regarding Rahul Gandhi's alleged disrespectful remarks about Lord Ram has been adjourned to January 2026 due to the non-appearance of the defendant and his counsel.

Varanasi: The hearing on a pending petition filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding his controversial statement referring to Lord Ram as "imaginary" could not take place in a special court on Friday. The case pertains to alleged disrespectful remarks made towards Lord Ram, with advocate Harishankar Pandey lodging the complaint with the court.

No party – neither Rahul Gandhi nor his lawyer – appeared before the special judge (MP-MLA) court, leading to the adjournment of the hearing. The next hearing is now scheduled for January 12, 2026.

The petition alleges that Rahul Gandhi described Lord Ram as mythical/fictional during a speech at Brown University (USA), thereby hurting religious sentiments. The petitioner claims that this amounted to disrespect towards the symbols and sentiments of the Sanatan Dharma (Hinduism).

Following the court's decision, the judicial process will continue with the hearing scheduled for January 12th.
