Rajasthan High Court Orders Closure of 86,000 Dilapidated Government School Rooms. Directs Government to Ensure Safe Education and Alternative Classroom Arrangements.
Rajasthan HC: The Rajasthan High Court has prohibited the use of over 86,000 dilapidated classrooms in state government schools, ordering that these rooms be closed and children not be allowed to enter them. This order comes after an incident in Jhalawar in July 2025, where the roof of a school collapsed, resulting in the death of seven students and injuries to eight others.
A bench of Justices Mahendra Kumar Goyal and Ashok Kumar Jain directed the state government to ensure alternative arrangements for the affected students so that their education is not disrupted.
Serious Figures Revealed in Government Survey
According to a government survey, there are 63,018 government schools in Rajasthan, with a total of 5,26,162 rooms. Of these, 86,934 rooms were found to be completely dilapidated, while 5,667 schools were found to be entirely unsafe. The survey also found the condition of toilets to be alarming, with 17,109 toilets in a dilapidated state and 29,093 requiring repairs. These figures make it clear that immediate steps are necessary to ensure the safety and education of children.
Court Seeks Technical Verification Report
The High Court has requested a technical verification report from engineers to ensure that no other dilapidated buildings or classrooms pose a threat to children. The next hearing of the case is scheduled for September 4, 2025. The court has directed the state government to ensure alternative classrooms and safe educational arrangements for children.
Heavy Rains Disrupt Public Life
Continuous torrential rains in the eastern parts of the state have disrupted public life. A flood-like situation has arisen in Kota, Bundi, Sawai Madhopur, and Tonk districts, and the administration has evacuated hundreds of people to safe areas. Heavy rains have caused waterlogging in many cities and disrupted road and rail connectivity, affecting the operation of schools and other public facilities.
