Resurgence of Jihadi Activities Raises Concerns in Bangladesh After Government Change

With the change of government in Bangladesh, the activities of Jihadi organizations have begun to surface openly. Slogans of Jihad were raised in mosques. Hundreds of militants were released. A rally by Jamaat-e-Islami intensifies activity in the capital.

Bangladesh Jihad: Following the change of government in Bangladesh, the activities of extremist and banned Islamic organizations are once again emerging publicly. In Dhaka's national mosque, Baitul Mukarram, supporters of some Jihadi organizations openly chanted slogans in support of 'Jihad' after Friday prayers and identified themselves as "militants." These events are raising serious concerns about the country's internal security.

Slogans of Jihad Raised from Mosque

On Friday, activists from banned organizations such as Hizb ut-Tahrir, Ansar al-Islam, Wilayah Bangladesh, and Jamaat-e-Islami gathered outside Dhaka's Baitul Mukarram Mosque. They chanted slogans like 'We want Jihad, we want to live by Jihad,' 'Nara-e-Takbir, Allahu Akbar,' 'Who are we? Militants, militants.' This demonstration took place after prayers and involved a large number of young people.

Hundreds of Militants Released

According to reports, since the change of government, more than 300 individuals accused of terrorism or involvement in extremist activities have been released on bail. Many of these defendants had previously been sentenced to life imprisonment. According to the prison department, these releases are due to bail granted by the court, but experts believe that such leniency could encourage radicalism.

Banned Organizations Become Active Again

During the tenure of the previous Awami League government, these Jihadi organizations were banned on charges of bombings, violence, and terrorism. However, the situation now appears to be changing. On paper, these organizations are still banned, but in practice, they have returned to the streets. Through posters, slogans, and gatherings, these organizations are once again registering their presence.

Return of Identified Terrorists

In the last 11 months alone, 148 accused individuals associated with Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) have been released. These include names associated with organizations such as Hizb ut-Tahrir, Ansarullah Bangla Team, and Hamza Brigade. Mufti Jasimuddin Rahmani, considered the head of Ansarullah Bangla Team, has also been granted bail. According to reports, he is now publicly appearing with supporters.

Large Rally by Jamaat-e-Islami

Amid these events, Jamaat-e-Islami has organized a large rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka. This rally is scheduled to take place on Saturday, and party workers from across the country began arriving in the capital on Friday. Some supporters were seen in traditional Islamic attire, while others wore white t-shirts with the slogans "First vote against the looters" and "Vote for the scales."
