Rishi Panchami Vrat 2025: Today, Thursday, August 28th, Hindu devotees across the country are observing the Rishi Panchami Vrat on the Panchami Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada. In temples and homes across the country, including New Delhi, devotees are worshiping the Saptarishis—Kashyapa, Atri, Bharadwaja, Vishwamitra, Gautama, Jamadagni, and Vashistha. Women especially observe this fast to purify themselves from রজস্বলা dosha and attain spiritual peace. It is believed that worship performed during the auspicious time bestows blessings of happiness, prosperity, and health.

Significance of Rishi Panchami Vrat

Rishi Panchami is considered not just a festival, but an atonement fast. Religious texts state that this fast is observed to purify any unintentional blemishes committed by women during menstruation. This tradition has been passed down through generations in many parts of Nepal and India.

On this occasion, the Saptarishis—Kashyapa, Atri, Bharadwaja, Vishwamitra, Gautama, Jamadagni, and Vashistha—are worshiped. Devotees begin the fast by bathing in the Ganges or any other sacred river. It is believed that rituals performed on this day free a person from the sins of their life and lead to spiritual purification.

Auspicious Time and Date for Worship

This year, the Panchami Tithi begins at 3:44 PM on August 27th and will last until 5:56 PM on August 28th. The worship and fast are of particular importance on August 28th. According to scriptures, the auspicious time for Rishi Panchami is from 11:05 AM to 1:39 PM. Performing worship during this period is believed to yield maximum benefits from the fast.

The fast falls two days after Hartalika Teej and one day before Ganesh Chaturthi. For this reason, it is considered part of a special religious series, and observing it with devotion is considered extremely auspicious.

Method of Worship for Rishi Panchami

On the day of the fast, devotees wake up early in the morning, take a bath, and purify the place of worship. A red cloth is spread on a platform, and an image of the Saptarishis is installed. After this, incense, lamps, fruits, flowers, ghee, and Panchamrit are offered, and the Rishis are invoked.

During the worship, Arghya (water offering) is offered to the Saptarishis, and mantras are chanted. It is religiously believed that worship performed in this manner not only destroys sins but also infuses positivity and spiritual energy into life.
