Weightlifting Competition Format

Weightlifting competitions consist of two events: snatch and clean and jerk. Athletes receive three attempts in each event.

In the snatch, the athlete lifts the barbell from the ground to overhead in a single movement.

In the clean and jerk, the athlete first lifts the barbell from the ground to the shoulders in the clean phase and then raises it overhead in the jerk phase.

The highest successful lift in each event is added to determine the athlete's total score. The competitor with the highest combined total is declared the winner.

India's Upcoming Events

Following Rishikant Singh's silver medal, India's attention now turns to Mirabai Chanu in the women's 49kg final. M. Raja will also compete for India in the men's 65kg category.

Action Continues in Other Sports

Apart from weightlifting, Indian athletes continued their campaigns in other events. The Indian women's pairs lawn bowls team lost to Namibia in a tie-break and must now defeat England to reach the semi-finals.

In gymnastics, Indian athletes will compete in the men's and women's all-around finals. Indian competitors also remain in medal contention in other events.
