A Russian drone attack on a railway platform in Ukraine’s Dnipro city on October 29, 2026, killed 14 people and injured 14 others. The attack targeted a platform near a passenger train. Ukrainian officials have cal attacks on the country’s railway infrastructure.

A Russian drone attack on a railway platform in Ukraine’s Dnipro city on Thursday, October 29, 2026, killed 14 people and injured 14 others, according to Ukrainian authorities. The attack took place while a passenger train was stationed at the platform. Rescue teams reached the scene and transported the injured to hospitals.

According to Ukraine’s state railway company, Ukrzaliznytsia, the platform near train number 866, which operates between Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia, was targeted in the attack. The train was preparing to depart from the station at the time.

Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov said a Russian drone struck an electric passenger train. A large number of people were present on the platform when the attack took place.

Railway officials said an air raid alert had been issued before the attack. Passengers had also been instructed to move to safer locations. However, several people remained on the platform and around the train.

The drone strike triggered panic at the railway station. Rescue workers evacuated the injured from the scene and took them to hospitals.

According to Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional administration, 14 people were injured in the attack. Six of them were reported to be in serious condition. A child was also among the injured.

Ukrainian officials said ordinary passengers were among those caught in the attack. Following the incident, the railway administration began reviewing security arrangements and the warnings issued before the strike.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack on the railway station. Describing the incident as horrifying, he called on the international community to take tougher measures against Russia.

Zelenskyy said maintaining economic and other sanctions against Russia was necessary to put pressure on the country and prevent further attacks.

The Ukrainian government also described attacks on civilian transport infrastructure as a serious matter. Russia had not issued an immediate official response to the incident.

Attacks on Ukraine’s railway network have continued. According to figures from the state railway company, more than 1,600 attacks targeting railway-related facilities were recorded between January and August 2026.

The attacks affected railway stations, trains, locomotives and other transport infrastructure.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said more than 500 locomotives had been damaged or destroyed since the war began in February 2022. More than half of that damage occurred in 2026.

Ukraine’s railway network serves more than passenger transport. During the war, it has also played a significant role in transporting grain, food supplies, essential goods and relief materials.

Disruptions to railway routes can delay the movement of goods, affecting businesses, agricultural transportation and the delivery of assistance to war-affected areas.

According to former Ukrainian Deputy Transport Minister Vasyl Shevchenko, damage to a single locomotive can disrupt train operations across an entire route. Fuel carried by diesel locomotives can also increase the risk of fire.

Ukraine’s state railway company has established monitoring centres to track drone activity. The objective is to stop trains when threats are detected and move passengers to safer locations.

In September, passengers were evacuated from 5,831 trains because of the threat of drone attacks. Many passengers had to wait in open areas until the danger passed.

In several cases, train operations were disrupted for hours. One train had to remain halted for approximately six and a half hours.

The attack in Dnipro comes amid continued efforts by Ukrainian railway authorities to maintain passenger safety and the movement of essential supplies during the war.
