Samrat Choudhary took oath as the 24th Chief Minister of Bihar at a ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan in Patna at 11 am, formally marking the formation of a new National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in the state. The swearing-in was conducted in the presence of the Governor, where the Chief Minister and members of the Council of Ministers took the oath of office and secrecy.
Vijay Kumar Sinha and Renu Devi were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers during the ceremony. Earlier, Samrat Choudhary had been elected leader of the NDA legislative party, following which he staked claim to form the government. The process of government formation was subsequently completed.
This development marks the first instance of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader assuming the office of Chief Minister in Bihar under the party’s direct leadership.
Prior to this change, Nitish Kumar resigned from the post of Chief Minister. His tenure had spanned nearly two decades during which he remained a central figure in the state’s political landscape. His resignation led to a reconfiguration of the political arrangement in the state.
The BJP stated that securing the Chief Minister’s position in Bihar follows 46 years of organisational work and expansion in the state. The party has previously been a major coalition partner or the largest party in the state but had not directly held the Chief Minister’s office.
The new government assumes office with several administrative priorities, including strengthening law and order, accelerating employment generation and development, maintaining balance between rural and urban development, and ensuring coordination among alliance partners. Analysts stated that the government under Samrat Choudhary will need to demonstrate both organisational cohesion and administrative stability.
