Shiv Sena (UBT) Welcomes Consideration of Maharashtra Governor for Vice President Post

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said on Monday, August 18th, that his party would openly welcome the nomination of Maharashtra Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan as a candidate for the post of Vice President.

New Delhi: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has expressed open support for the nomination of Maharashtra Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)'s candidate for the post of Vice President. Speaking to the media on Monday (August 18th), Raut said that it is a matter of pride for anyone connected to Maharashtra to be selected for a constitutional post, and it should be welcomed wholeheartedly.

However, Sanjay Raut did not clarify whether his party would support the NDA candidate. He said, "We are happy that C. P. Radhakrishnan is a candidate for the post of Vice President. Earlier, Shankar Dayal Sharma, who was also associated with Maharashtra, became the Vice President and later the President. Whenever someone connected to Maharashtra is chosen for such a high constitutional post, we welcome it. But Radhakrishnan is the NDA candidate, and Shiv Sena (UBT) is a part of the 'India' alliance."

Discussion on Opposition Candidate

Sanjay Raut further stated that the opposition has deliberated on the selection of a Vice-Presidential candidate. According to the Rajya Sabha member, Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal met with Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray to discuss the opposition candidate. Raut said, "When Uddhav Thackeray went to New Delhi last week, the Vice-Presidential candidate was discussed."

He conveyed his views to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. He also said that Shiv Sena (UBT) would not take an independent decision in this matter but would actively participate in building a consensus with the 'India' alliance. Sanjay Raut said, "If there is any kind of consensus between the 'India' alliance and the NDA, Shiv Sena (UBT) will also be a part of that process. There is no need to take a separate decision on this issue."

NDA Candidate: C.P. Radhakrishnan

C.P. Radhakrishnan, who comes from a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) background, has been declared the NDA's candidate for the post of Vice President. Radhakrishnan has been a senior leader from Tamil Nadu and has been associated with the BJP organization for a long time. BJP President J.P. Nadda made this announcement after a meeting of the party's parliamentary board in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In addition, the party also held discussions with its alliance partners in this matter.

The announcement of Radhakrishnan's name has sparked discussions in political circles, as his experience and political background make him suitable for this constitutional post. Sanjay Raut said that it is a matter of pride for the state when leaders connected to Maharashtra hold constitutional positions. He gave the example of Shankar Dayal Sharma, who was the then Governor of Maharashtra and later became the Vice President and President.
