Shubman Gill to Lead India in West Indies Test Series; Ravindra Jadeja Named Vice-Captain

The Indian cricket team has announced its squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies. In this series, Shubman Gill will captain the team, while Ravindra Jadeja has been appointed as the vice-captain.

SPORTS NEWS: The Indian squad for the two-match Test series against West Indies, scheduled for next month, was announced on Thursday. Shubman Gill will captain the team in this series, with Ravindra Jadeja serving as vice-captain. The first Test match between India and West Indies will be played on October 2nd at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This will be the Indian team's first Test match since their five-match series against England.

Jurel to take over wicketkeeping in Pant's absence

Veteran wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is not fully fit due to injury and has not been included in the squad for the series. In Pant's absence, who served as vice-captain during the England tour, this responsibility has now been handed to Ravindra Jadeja. Dhruv Jurel will be the primary wicketkeeper in this series. Jurel also took on the responsibility during the England tour in Pant's absence, and he has now been selected as the main wicketkeeper. Furthermore, N. Jagadeesan has been given a spot in the team as a backup wicketkeeper.

Bumrah, Siraj, and Krishna in pace attack

Jasprit Bumrah, who led India's pace attack in the Asia Cup, has not been rested for this Test series. Bumrah only had the opportunity to play three matches during the England tour, but he will be part of the playing XI in the West Indies series. Additionally, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna will handle the fast bowling responsibilities. Bumrah's availability is expected to strengthen the Indian team's bowling attack.

Karun Nair and Sarfaraz Khan miss out on squad selection

Karun Nair, who returned to the team after an eight-year hiatus following the England tour, has not been included in the squad for the West Indies series. Karun's performance in England was not as expected. He scored a half-century in the Oval Test, but a finger injury prevented him from playing in the Duleep Trophy as well.

Sarfaraz Khan also did not find a place in the squad. He has scored runs in domestic cricket and is working on his fitness, but the selectors did not pick him for this series.
