Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen has always been known for her b willpower and patience. But the way she faced the difficult period after suffering a heart attack on set in 2023 is even more inspiring.
Entertainment News: Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen suffered a heart attack in February 2023 during the filming of ‘Aarya Season 3’, where 95 percent blockage was found in her arteries, and she underwent an operation. Sushmita has now revealed that she decided to stay conscious throughout the entire procedure. The 49-year-old actress shared in a podcast with Divya Jain that she repeatedly told doctors not to sedate her, as the ‘control freak’ within her dislikes being unconscious.
She also stated that perhaps this was why she survived the heart attack, as staying conscious and fighting at that moment was a crucial choice for her. She returned to work just 15 days after the heart attack.
Sushmita Returned to Set 15 Days After Heart Attack
The 49-year-old actress spoke in detail about her experience in a podcast with Divya Jain. She revealed that during the post-heart attack surgery, doctors advised her to be sedated, but she clearly stated that she did not want to be unconscious during the procedure. She wanted to feel and see everything.
Sushmita said, "The control freak inside me doesn't like being unconscious. That's why I survived, because it was a choice—either to endure everything while conscious, or to fall asleep unconsciously and perhaps never wake up." Despite such a severe experience as a heart attack, Sushmita returned to shooting in just 15 days, which even surprised her medical team.

'I Wanted to See Everything That Was Happening to Me' - Sushmita
Sushmita revealed that during the surgical process, she asked the doctors to keep the dosage of medication low to reduce pain. She was fully conscious and continued to converse with the doctors. She said-
'I wanted to see everything. I wanted to know what was happening. I was telling the doctors to hurry up because my entire team was waiting in Jaipur for the shooting to resume.'
Sushmita emotionally shared that she was not only concerned about her own health but also about the livelihood of her team. A team of approximately 500 people worked on the set of ‘Aarya’, and as the lead of the show, filming could not proceed without her. She said-
'When you are the lead of a show, it's not just your job. You bear the responsibility of so many people. I was worried that their daily wages were halted because of me. They were very supportive of me, but I felt that I needed to go back now.'
She explained that the medical team was not allowing her to return to shooting immediately, but after persistent requests, she received permission to film 'Aarya' 15 days later. A few months after the news of Sushmita's heart attack, the first part of ‘Aarya Season 3’ was released in November 2023. The second part of this season was streamed in February 2024. Portraying the role of a b, combative, and spirited mother in the series, she also brought her real-life resilience to the screen.
