Tanvi The Great Review: Anupam Kher is back as a director after 23 years with the film 'Tanvi: The Great'. In 2002, his first film 'Om Jai Jagadish' was a complete flop at the box office, after which Anupam distanced himself from direction. But this time he has returned with a subject very close to his heart. The story of the film is inspired by the real life of his niece Tanvi, who struggles with autism.

Story of the film

The story of 'Tanvi: The Great' revolves around 21-year-old Tanvi (Shubhangi Dutt). Tanvi suffers from autism and lives with her mother Vidya (Pallavi Joshi). Vidya is an autism expert by profession and goes to America for some time. During this time, Tanvi is left with her maternal grandfather, Colonel Pratap Raina (Anupam Kher). Here Tanvi learns that her martyred father, Captain Samar Raina, had a dream that she would hoist the tricolor on the Siachen Glacier.

The story of the film is woven around this struggle and Tanvi's journey of courage. How an autistic girl sets out to fulfill her father's dreams is the soul of the film.

Acting

The best aspect of the film is its performances. Shubhangi Dutt has acted so brilliantly in her debut that it doesn't seem in a single frame that she is facing the camera for the first time. Her innocence, pain and passion are reflected on the screen. Anupam Kher is the life of this film. He has played the character of a strict but very soft-hearted maternal grandfather with complete honesty.

Karan Tacker has also acted well. Pallavi Joshi, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swami and Boman Irani look fit in their respective roles. Foreign actors like Ian Glen and Nasser did not have much scope to do anything special in their cameos.

Direction and Screenplay

Anupam Kher's thoughts and feelings are clearly visible in the film. He has shown this sensitive subject with a big heart. But he still did not seem mature in terms of direction. The film becomes very slow in many places. Many scenes seem to be stretched unnecessarily. Some emotional scenes are so heart-touching that they can bring tears to your eyes, while some scenes seem baseless and unbelievable.

The VFX of the film is very weak. In one scene, when the truck falls into the ditch and catches fire, the audience laughs after seeing it. Even though this film is an emotional drama, it was important to pay attention to the technical quality. The music of the film is its weakest link. The songs are long and slow, the lyrics seem a bit raw and awkward. 'Sena ki Jai...' is a bit better, but the rest of the songs slow down the pace of the story even more. It seems as if this film has been made for children.

Watch or not?

If you like emotional, inspirational and family dramas, then 'Tanvi: The Great' can be watched once, especially for children. The film gives a message to the society that no deficiency is a hindrance in the path of dreams. Although things are shown away from reality in many places in the film, so you will have to watch it with a little tolerance.
