Trump's Claims of Mediating India-Pakistan Tensions Spark Debate in India

Former US President Donald Trump has once again claimed a role in de-escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan. Trump stated that he attempted to mediate between the two countries to reduce tensions and was successful in doing so.

New Delhi: Following the alleged easing of military tensions between India and Pakistan in May 2025, the claims of former US President Donald Trump have sparked a debate in Indian politics once again. Trump has recently reiterated his claim that he prevented an India-Pakistan war, making such statements 21 times in just 59 days. The Congress party has raised questions about the central government's silence on this issue and demanded a public response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Trump Says - 'I Prevented Nuclear War Between India-Pakistan'

During a press conference, Trump said that the situation between India and Pakistan in May had deteriorated to the point where it could have escalated into a nuclear war. He stated that his intervention and the US's trade pressure led both countries to move towards peace. He also mentioned that he had made it clear to India and Pakistan that they would face consequences in the American markets if the war didn't stop.

Trump claims that he averted a potential nuclear conflict and is now planning to negotiate trade agreements with both India and Pakistan soon.

Congress Launches Strong Criticism: Why is Prime Minister Modi Silent?

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh launched a b attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding Trump's statements. He posted on the social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter): Trump has claimed 21 times in 59 days that he alone stopped the India-Pakistan war. This is a matter of concern. When will the Prime Minister of India respond to this?

Jairam Ramesh said that if Trump's claim is true, it directly questions India's military and diplomatic sovereignty. He also added that Trump is repeatedly raising this issue on the electoral platform, and it has become a matter of the Indian people's respect.

India's Silence or Diplomatic Grace?

The Indian government has not yet issued any formal response. Sources in the Ministry of External Affairs have only stated that the DGMO of Pakistan contacted them in May, and it was after this that consideration was given to de-escalating tensions. Political analysts believe that the central government wants to ignore Trump's statements in light of the US presidential elections to avoid any adverse impact on India-US relations. However, the opposition is presenting it as weakness or diplomatic failure.

Questions That Need Answers

  • If Trump's claim is true, why hasn't any official statement come from India?
  • Did the US really stop India from war by applying trade pressure?
  • Has India's diplomacy become so weak that a foreign leader is constantly making statements about it?
  • If this is a lie, why isn't the Indian government refuting Trump's claims?

While Donald Trump's constant statements may be part of American electoral politics, in India, this has become a question of diplomatic dignity and national honor.
