An early Thursday morning fire in Ujjain's Dewasgate area caused severe damage to Ashoka Travels and three nearby shops. Passengers' luggage and shop merchandise were completely destroyed, with financial losses estimated to be in the millions.
Ujjain: Early Thursday morning, a major fire in the Dewasgate police station area damaged several shops. The fire originated in the Ashoka Travels office, where employees attempted to extinguish it promptly. During this incident, passengers' luggage and the agency's furniture were completely destroyed. Thanks to the swift action of local residents and the fire brigade, the fire did not spread to other shops. However, the blaze had intensified significantly, requiring three fire engines to bring it under control. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
Major Fire at Travel Agency
According to information, the fire erupted around 3 AM. An employee present in the travel agency office noticed smoke rising from a neighboring area and immediately tried to douse the flames with water from a drum. This effort prevented the fire from spreading to other shops, but the agency's office was completely gutted.
The Dewasgate police station is located near the incident site, allowing the police to reach the spot immediately. Given its proximity to the bus stand, news of the fire caused commotion among passengers.
Losses Worth Millions Due to Fire
Rajesh Sharma, the owner of the travel agency, stated that all the furniture and items in the office were completely destroyed. Additionally, passengers' luggage was also entirely lost. According to preliminary estimates, the damage is in the millions of rupees, while the value of the luggage has not yet been determined.
Local resident Mihir Parmar mentioned that the flames were quite high, and a major catastrophe was averted because the entire area is commercial.
Fire at Dona-Pattal Factory Controlled
Another incident of fire was reported from Ujjain district. A fire broke out in a factory manufacturing 'dona-pattal' (leaf plates and bowls) in the Karondiya area of Shankarpur. The raw materials present in the factory caused the fire to spread rapidly.
It took 12 fire engines and approximately 6 hours of strenuous effort to bring this fire under control. The factory owner reported an estimated loss of 2.5 million rupees (25 lakh rupees).
