UN Human Rights Experts Accuse Israel of Genocide in Gaza; Israel Rejects Claims

A report by experts from the United Nations Human Rights Council has accused Israel of genocide in Gaza. The report stated that Netanyahu and top leaders are responsible for the attacks. Israel has called the report false.

UN Report: The ongoing war between Israel and Hamas has devastated Gaza. Israel is continuously conducting military operations, which have resulted in thousands of deaths so far. Hospitals, homes, and shelters in Gaza have turned into rubble. The international community has been consistently expressing concern over this conflict.

Major Claim by UN Experts

A three-member team of independent experts appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has claimed in its latest report that Israel is committing "Genocide" in Gaza. The report states that Israel's actions are not just military operations but resemble organized genocide.

Key Findings of the Report

The three-member team reached this conclusion after in-depth study and analysis of documents. According to the report, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Isaac Herzog, and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant have been accused of making statements that incited genocide. However, the team did not clarify whether other Israeli leaders also did so.

72-Page Report and the Genocide Convention

This report by independent experts is 72 pages long. It states that Israel has taken actions at least three to four times since October 2023 that could be considered "genocide" under the 1948 Genocide Convention. The team also stated that this conclusion is part of the most robust and official investigation to date.

Is This the Official Stance of the United Nations?

This report is from a commission working under the United Nations Human Rights Council. However, it will not be considered the official opinion of the United Nations (UN). In other words, it is the independent conclusion of the experts. Israel has refused to cooperate with this commission and has termed it "anti-Israel and biased."

Israel's Reaction

Israel has completely rejected this report. The Israeli government states that the report is based on "lies and distorted facts." They allege that the Human Rights Council and this commission have consistently held an anti-Israel stance, hence their credibility is questionable.

America's Stance

It is noteworthy that the United States has also been supporting Israel in this dispute for a long time. During the Trump administration, the US withdrew itself from the Human Rights Council. This is why the US has not given much importance to this report.

Israel's New Military Operation

Meanwhile, the Israeli army has announced the commencement of a major "Extended Operation" in Gaza City. The army states that the aim of this operation is to destroy Hamas's military bases and infrastructure. Israel had been warning local residents for the past month to evacuate Gaza City.
