Jammu-Kashmir: Traveling to Kashmir, one of India's most beautiful and popular tourist destinations, has become even more convenient. The operation of the Vande Bharat Express train from Katra to Srinagar has not only reduced travel distance but also made the journey more exciting and comfortable. Especially during winters, when snowfall closes National Highway-44, this train is proving to be a crucial link connecting the Kashmir Valley to the rest of the country.

Katra-Srinagar Journey Made Easier and Faster

The recently inaugurated Chenab Railway Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir is a significant achievement for the Vande Bharat Express. It reduces the travel time from Katra to Srinagar to just three hours, compared to the previous ten hours. The train fare is also around ₹700, a significantly cheaper alternative to air travel.

The train departs from Katra at 8:10 AM and arrives at Srinagar railway station at 11:02 AM. During this journey, passengers not only enjoy the natural beauty of Kashmir but also experience the thrill of crossing the Chenab Bridge, one of the world's highest railway bridges. The experience of crossing this bridge adds excitement and joy, making the journey special.

A Boon for Tourists and Pilgrims

This train is particularly beneficial for pilgrims visiting Katra for Mata Vaishno Devi darshan and tourists wanting to explore the scenic beauty of Kashmir. The comfortable journey on the Vande Bharat Express not only saves time but also provides passengers with comfortable amenities. Passengers can avail modern amenities like bio-vacuum toilets, a heating system, and charging points during their journey.

One passenger mentioned that this train fulfilled their dream of visiting Kashmir, as the road journey was previously time-consuming and difficult. This train will now be a game-changer in promoting tourism.

Six Days a Week, Two Class Options

The Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express operates six days a week, with some trains not running on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Two classes are available for passengers: Chair Car and Executive Class. Chair Car tickets cost ₹715, and Executive Class tickets cost ₹1320.

The train operates in two shifts from Katra, morning and afternoon, while from Srinagar, it returns to Katra in afternoon and morning shifts. Currently, it only stops at Banihal station; decisions regarding stops at other stations will be made in the future.

Train Features and Passenger Amenities

The Vande Bharat Express is specifically designed to withstand Kashmir's cold weather and snowfall. The train coaches are equipped with silicon heating pads and heating pipelines to prevent water freezing and cold washrooms. Additionally, the train's toilets are equipped with aircraft-like bio-vacuum technology, offering better cleanliness and water conservation.

Keeping passenger comfort in mind, the train provides charging points, comfortable seats, and 360-degree rotating seats. This makes the journey not only safe but also comfortable.

Prime Minister Inaugurates Chenab Bridge

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the Chenab Bridge, the world's highest railway bridge. Following this, the Vande Bharat Express running via this bridge was flagged off, commencing its service. The operation of this bridge has eased movement in the Kashmir Valley, especially during the snowy season.

Significant Boost to Kashmir Tourism and Economy

The Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express is not only beneficial for passengers but also a significant achievement for Jammu and Kashmir's economy and tourism industry. Tourists from other parts of the country can now easily and comfortably reach Kashmir. This will strengthen the local tourism industry and create more job opportunities.
