Varanasi continues to be gripped by severe cold. A sharp decline in temperature has been recorded due to the cold wave and icy winds, impacting daily life. The lack of sunshine throughout the day has increased the chill and shivering.
According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature on Monday was recorded nearly 9 degrees Celsius below normal. Dense fog prevailed in the morning, while cold winds continued throughout the day. People were forced to rely on bonfires and warm clothing due to the cold.
Experts say that the cold weather is persisting due to snowfall in the hilly areas and westerly winds. There is little hope of relief from the cold and chill in the coming days.
Due to the cold wave, movement on the roads was limited during the morning and evening hours, and the administration has made arrangements for bonfires to protect against the cold.
