The efforts to bring transparency and stability to the Indian boxing administration are receiving international recognition. In this context, the World Boxing Organization (WB) has made an important decision, extending the term of the interim committee of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) until August 31st.
Sports News: The interim committee of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has received global recognition. World Boxing has extended its term until August 31, 2025, appreciating the committee's work and its 'athlete-first' approach. This decision is seen as recognition of the committee's efforts to ensure transparency, stability, and prioritizing the needs of the athletes.
Committee Formed in April
This interim committee, appointed by World Boxing in April 2025, is headed by former BFI chief Ajay Singh. The committee was appointed for 90 days to manage the administrative affairs of Indian boxing. The committee has so far demonstrated excellent operational efficiency.
It successfully organized national championships, under-15, under-17, and elite category international competitions, providing opportunities for Indian boxers to continuously compete and win medals on the international stage.
Boris Van der Vorst Applauds Openly
In a letter to Ajay Singh, World Boxing President Boris van der Vorst openly praised the role of the committee. He wrote: "We are delighted to see that the interim committee is working effectively and has made significant progress in restoring transparency and stability in national boxing administration." He also added that the consistent international presence and medal wins of Indian boxers are a result of the committee's visionary efforts.
India's Impressive Performance in the Medal Table
During the committee's tenure, India has performed brilliantly in several international competitions:
- India won a total of 11 medals, including 3 gold and 5 silver, at the World Boxing Cup held in Astana, Kazakhstan.
- India won 6 medals in the first phase held in Brazil.
- Indian boxers also performed excellently at the Thailand International Open.
- These achievements make it clear that Indian boxers are continuously showcasing their talent on the global stage.
PT Usha also Appreciated the Committee's Efforts
In his letter, Van der Vorst also mentioned a recent conversation with PT Usha, President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), in which she openly praised the efforts being made by the committee. This shows that the committee's work is being recognized at the highest level of Indian sports administration. The interim committee includes experienced figures from Indian boxing and sports administration:
- Narendra Kumar Nirwan – Vice President, BFI
- Arun Malik – Executive Director
- L Sarita Devi – Olympian and former boxer
- A nominated member of the IOA
- Fairuz Mohd – President of the Singapore Boxing Association and representative of World Boxing
All these members have collectively made the operation of boxing transparent and athlete-friendly.
