Dehradun: The weather in Uttarakhand is changing constantly these days. Sometimes the scorching sun and humid heat are causing discomfort, and sometimes people are finding relief from the rain. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in the hilly districts. Traffic has been affected due to incidents of debris and boulders falling on several routes, from Dehradun to Uttarkashi.
Yellow Alert Issued for Uttarakhand's Hilly Regions
Heavy rain is expected in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand today. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert specifically for heavy rainfall in the higher altitude areas. In light of this, local administration and disaster management departments are on alert. Weather experts state that due to continuous rain in the hilly areas, the risk of landslides and debris fall remains.
There is also a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in the plains. In Dehradun, bright sunshine on Tuesday caused discomfort to people, but the rain that occurred after noon provided some relief from the heat. Local residents reported a sudden drop in temperature during the rain, which brought respite from the humid heat.
Debris and Boulders on Uttarakhand Highways
Several highways and rural roads in Uttarakhand have been obstructed due to rain and landslides over the past few days. Particularly in the Uttarkashi district, traffic came to a standstill due to heavy boulders and debris falling on the route from Dhumakot to Kotdwar. The BRO took swift action, using blasting to clear the debris and restore the route.
The Gangotri highway near Nallupani was closed for about 24 hours due to a large amount of debris, trees, and boulders. The BRO cleared the route within 24 hours using machinery. However, the risk of debris falling from the hills still persists, and travelers and drivers are advised to remain cautious.

A total of 203 road routes are closed in Uttarakhand. These include 116 roads under PMGSY, 86 roads under the Public Works Department and National Highway, and one road under BRO. Hill tourism has been impacted due to incidents of rain and debris fall. Local businessmen state that their businesses have been affected by the rain and road closures.
