Banaras Hindu University (BHU) hosted the inauguration of a national convention on Monday at Swatantrata Bhavan in Varanasi, where Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath formally opened the event. Preparations for the Chief Minister’s visit had been completed in advance, and security arrangements were put in place across the university campus.
Upon arriving at the venue, the Chief Minister was welcomed by the BHU Vice-Chancellor and other senior officials. The Vice-Chancellor honoured him with an angavastram and presented a memento. Yogi Adityanath then inaugurated the national convention by lighting a ceremonial lamp.
The event, held at Swatantrata Bhavan, was attended by academicians, researchers, students and several distinguished guests from different states across the country. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasised the importance of education, research and India’s knowledge tradition. He said higher educational institutions are not merely centres for awarding degrees but are important foundations of nation-building.
Yogi Adityanath said there is a need to advance India’s ancient knowledge tradition by integrating it with modern technology. He called upon universities to promote research and innovation so that young people can be prepared to face emerging challenges.
Praising BHU’s achievements, the Chief Minister said the university is a matter of pride not only for Uttar Pradesh but for the entire country. He stated that students graduating from the institution have established distinct identities in India and abroad and have made notable contributions in various fields.
During the programme, the university administration briefed the Chief Minister on the institution’s academic and research activities. Discussions were also held on ongoing development projects on the campus and future plans.
In view of the Chief Minister’s visit, extensive security arrangements were made on the campus and in surrounding areas. Police and administrative officials continuously monitored the arrangements throughout the event.
Following the inauguration of the national convention, the Chief Minister interacted with participants and encouraged them to contribute to the country’s development. He said the youth are India’s greatest strength and that education can help take the nation to new heights.
At the conclusion of the programme, the Chief Minister was presented with a memento and honoured by the organisers. He later departed to attend other scheduled events. The national convention at BHU is being regarded as an important event in the fields of education and research.
