Zelenskyy made these remarks during an interview with the Axios news website. He stated that he is ready to step down from office once the war concludes, and his focus is solely on bringing an end to the conflict.
Zelenskyy's Perspective on the War
The war between Ukraine and Russia has now been ongoing for over three years. During this period, both countries have experienced immense devastation and loss of civilian lives. Zelenskyy stated that his sole goal at this time is to end the war.
He explained that the citizens of Ukraine have suffered greatly due to the war. The country faces a crisis in basic facilities, and millions of people have been displaced. Therefore, ending the war quickly is his priority.
Relinquishing the Presidency
Zelenskyy clarified that he will not strive to remain in the presidential office once the war ends. He stated, "My intention is not to cling to power. If the war concludes and the country moves towards peace, I am ready to step down."
Appeal for Strict Measures Against Russia
The Ukrainian President also stated that Russia needs to be stopped from escalating the war. He appealed to the global community to take strict measures against Russia. Zelenskyy accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of wanting to promote war in Europe.
He warned that Russia has advanced significantly in a destructive arms race, and this cannot be ignored. He asserted that the international community must collectively stop this threat.
