Amidst the resounding chants of "Bam Bam Bhole" and "Bharat Mata Ki Jai," the first batch of the Shri Amarnath Yatra departed from the base camp, Yatri Niwas, in Jammu for Kashmir on Wednesday morning, under tight security.
Amarnath Yatra 2025: A surge of devotion has swept through Jammu and Kashmir as devotees gather for the darshan of the sacred ice lingam of Bholenath (Lord Shiva). The first batch of the Shri Amarnath Yatra was flagged off from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on Wednesday morning by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. An atmosphere of incredible enthusiasm and devotion was palpable among the pilgrims, who chanted "Bam Bam Bhole" and "Har Har Mahadev."
This first batch comprised 5,892 pilgrims, including families, elderly individuals, and young devotees. The sounds of drums, conch shells, and nagadas (kettledrums) filled the air, creating a devotional atmosphere. Along the route, people welcomed the pilgrims with garlands and distributed prasad (offerings).
Tight Security, But Faith Remains Unwavering
In light of recent terrorist incidents, the administration has implemented unprecedented security measures along the yatra route. Thousands of security personnel have been deployed, and surveillance is being conducted using drones and CCTV cameras. Despite these challenges, the enthusiasm on the faces of the devotees was evident. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stated that the unwavering devotion of the people towards Bhole Baba is the true strength of this yatra and a testament to the shared heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
Shiv Bhakts to Proceed to Pahalgam and Baltal
The pilgrims of the first batch reached the base camps in Pahalgam and Baltal by evening, where an atmosphere of intense devotion to Lord Shiva was observed. The Baltal route is relatively shorter, allowing devotees to complete their darshan and return on the same day, while the Pahalgam route is considered longer and more scenic.
On Thursday morning, the devotees will begin their journey from these two locations towards the holy Amarnath cave. The administration has made robust arrangements for medical teams, relief efforts, and other facilities at the camps.
A Unique Confluence of Patriotism and Faith
During the yatra, flags of Lord Shiva were seen fluttering alongside the tricolor. This unique confluence of patriotism and faith held a special place in the hearts of the devotees. Some wore rudraksha malas (prayer beads) on their heads, others were adorned in the likeness of Shiva, while some held tridents and damrus (small drums). The only call on everyone's lips was - "Bam Bam Bhole!"
Several politicians and saints were present on the occasion of the departure of the first batch. Notable figures such as MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, State President of the Sanatan Dharma Sabha Purushottam Dadhichi, MLA Vikram Randhawa, Congress leader Ravindra Sharma, youth leader Devyani Rana, and Mahant Rameshwara Das were also witnesses to this historic moment.
Special Facilities for Pilgrims
This year, special arrangements have been made for the pilgrims at the base camps, including night stay facilities, medical assistance, security support, food and beverage services, and a 24-hour control room. The administration has appealed to the pilgrims to carry their registered yatra permits and identity cards and to adhere to the instructions of the administration. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed confidence that this year's Amarnath Yatra would be the grandest and most historic yet. He stated that the government is taking full responsibility for the safety and convenience of the devotees.
With the echoes of "Har Har Mahadev" and "Jai Bholenath" resonating in the air of Jammu and Kashmir, the caravan of devotees has embarked on its journey towards the darshan of Baba Barfani, and the entire nation has its eyes set on this sacred yatra.
