A 1200-meter-long flyover will be constructed from Aliganj to Kapoorthala in Lucknow at a cost of ₹329 crore, alleviating traffic congestion for over five lakh residents.
UP: There's good news for the residents of Aliganj, Mahanagar, and Kapoorthala in Lucknow. The Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation has prepared a new plan to construct a new flyover from the Indian Oil petrol pump to Aliganj, via Kapoorthala Chauraha. This flyover will be approximately 1200 meters long and have two lanes. The estimated cost of this project is ₹329 crore.
Scope and Objective of the Project
This flyover is primarily being built to address the problem of traffic congestion in Aliganj, Mahanagar, Kapoorthala, and surrounding areas. Currently, there is heavy traffic congestion in this area during the morning and evening hours, affecting over five lakh people. Once the flyover is built, traffic coming from Mahanagar will be able to move directly without stopping.
Expenditure Details for Flyover Construction
According to the proposal prepared by the Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation:
- ₹177 crore will be spent on the construction of the flyover.
- ₹118 crore is allocated for land acquisition and compensation.
- ₹34 crore will be spent on shifting sewers, electricity, and other utilities.
- Thus, the total cost of this project is estimated at ₹329 crore.
Traffic Changes and Temporary Inconvenience
During the construction of the flyover, commuters will have to use alternative routes for at least one and a half to two years. Traffic may be affected on the road during the construction work, and it is possible that the executing agency may temporarily close the road, keeping in mind the safety and speed of the work. However, this inconvenience will be a necessary step towards a permanent solution.
Relief for Local Shopkeepers and Traders
The construction of the flyover is expected to provide special relief to the operators of commercial complexes located at Kapoorthala Chauraha and its surroundings. Currently, customers face considerable difficulty in parking four-wheeled vehicles because parking facilities are not available in most markets. There is a proposal to develop the space under the flyover as parking. This will provide convenience to people coming for shopping and will also reduce the pressure on traffic on the road.
Suggestion for an Elevated Road for Dandaiya Mohalla
Local residents have also suggested that if a four-lane elevated road is built over Dandaiya Bazaar, reaching up to before the Tedhi Pulia Chauraha via Vikas Nagar, the problem of traffic congestion in the entire area can be completely eliminated. This proposed elevated road could be even more effective than the Kapoorthala flyover.
