New Delhi Railway Station Implements New Parking System

New Delhi Railway Station: New Delhi Railway Station, located in the capital of India, has become more stringent and organized regarding its parking arrangements. To alleviate the concerns of passengers and their families, the Indian Railways has implemented a new access-controlled parking policy, which will levy additional charges for vehicles exceeding the allotted time. This new system, which came into effect on Wednesday, aims to reduce traffic congestion at the railway station and streamline parking operations.

Free Parking for Up to 8 Minutes, Fees Apply After That

Vehicle owners at New Delhi Railway Station will now be exempt from parking fees for the first 8 minutes. If you drop off or pick up a passenger and return within 8 minutes, you will not be charged a parking fee. This facility applies to both private and commercial vehicles.

However, if a vehicle remains parked for more than 8 minutes, a tiered fee structure will apply:

  • A fee of ₹50 will be charged for stopping between 8 and 15 minutes.
  • The fee will increase to ₹200 for stopping between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • A fee of ₹500 will be charged for stopping for more than 30 minutes, and the vehicle may be towed away.

This step is intended to reduce the number of vehicles unnecessarily parked within the station premises and simplify passenger movement.

Start at Ajmeri Gate, Expansion to Other Entry Points Planned

The new system is currently being implemented at the Ajmeri Gate of New Delhi Railway Station, one of the busiest entry points. For a long time, there had been parking problems at this location, with vehicles often left for hours, causing traffic jams and disorder. In response to this issue, Northern Railways has implemented this new access-controlled system, which is also equipped with technology. Plans are underway to expand this system to other entry points and major stations in the future.

Fee Payment via Fastag, Emphasis on Digital Systems

To modernize and enhance transparency in parking fees, the Indian Railways has also incorporated a Fastag-based payment system. As soon as a vehicle enters the pick-and-drop lane at the station, the timer starts, and the applicable fee is deducted from the Fastag upon exiting.

In addition, kiosks have been set up at the entry points for vehicles that do not have Fastag facilities, where parking receipts can be obtained. Fees will be collected at the exit, where a boom barrier and automated system will process the payment.

Only Drop-Off Vehicles Permitted in the Premises

Under the new railway system, only vehicles arriving to drop off passengers will be allowed to enter the main station premises. Vehicles arriving to pick up passengers must park in the designated parking area outside the station, as the typical stay time there exceeds 8 minutes.

This step will not only reduce congestion but also maintain discipline within the station and provide passengers with a safe and organized environment.

Railway Administration Appeals, Special Attention to Time

Northern Railway authorities have requested passengers and vehicle operators to pay close attention to time before parking their vehicles at the station premises. Any vehicle remaining for more than 8 minutes will incur a charge automatically, regardless of the reason. Appropriate signage and digital displays have been installed at the station to provide passengers with clear information. Furthermore, officials have clarified that strict action may be taken against vehicle operators who deliberately violate parking rules to avoid any disputes.

Passengers Will Experience More Convenient Travel

The implementation of this new system at New Delhi Railway Station will provide passengers with relief from unnecessary congestion and traffic. Clear understanding will be established between drivers and passengers, and disputes related to parking will also be reduced.

This system is particularly beneficial for individuals who arrive at the station just before their train departs and are in a hurry. They can now be confident that they can complete their task within 8 minutes without incurring any fees.

Current Arrangement Offers Flexibility, But Caution is Key

While the railway has provided an 8-minute grace period, this time may be quite limited considering traffic conditions. Passengers are advised to check traffic conditions on both entry and exit routes of the station before parking and plan accordingly. During peak hours or in the event of train delays, if a vehicle remains parked for longer, the applicable fee will be charged, and the vehicle may also be towed. Therefore, use the parking area with caution.
