This is the story of two brothers – Ramu and Shyamu. They lived with their parents in a small village. Ramu was the elder brother and Shyamu was the younger. They shared a deep bond and felt incomplete without each other. Their parents earned a living through farming, and from childhood, both brothers helped their father in the fields.
Ramu was calm by nature, sensible and responsible, while Shyamu was playful, emotional, and full of life. Although they were different, their hearts were alike – pure and true. They always stood by each other through thick and thin.
The Parents' Passing and Responsibilities
Time passed. Both grew up and, after their studies, became fully involved in farming. Then, one day, their parents suddenly passed away. The entire responsibility of the household fell upon Ramu and Shyamu. They managed the house and the fields with mutual cooperation. They worked together, united, just like their parents had.
Some years later, Ramu got married and became occupied with his family. Shyamu remained single but never complained. He believed that his brother's happiness was his own.
The Division: A Rift in the Relationship
As time went on, circumstances began to change. Some people in the village started persuading Shyamu – 'You should also claim your share now. Who knows what the future holds?' Gradually, the idea began to surface in Shyamu's mind that perhaps he should get a separate share of his hard work.
When Ramu heard Shyamu's words, he was initially a little surprised, but then he said – 'Okay brother, if you feel this is right, then we will divide the land.' Shyamu was satisfied with Ramu's consent, but somewhere deep down, his heart felt heavy.
The Night's Decision: The Hidden Love of the Two Brothers
The division was decided, and the next day, the fields were to be divided into two parts. But something strange happened that night. Shyamu thought, 'Bhaiya (brother) has always cared for me. Now that he has two children, he needs more land. Why don't I quietly add a portion of my share to his field?'
Meanwhile, Ramu was also thinking, 'Shyamu is alone; he has no one. If I give him a little from my share, what difference will it make? At least his future will be secure.'
In the darkness of the night, both brothers quietly took some part of their respective land and added it to the other's – without telling anyone.
The Morning's Surprise: A Meeting of Emotions
In the morning, when Ramu and Shyamu reached the field, they saw that there was no difference in the land. Both were surprised that the portion they had given to each other had returned to its original place. After thinking for a while, they realized that they had both done the same thing – quietly given their share of the land to each other.
Tears welled up in their eyes upon realizing this. But these tears were not of sadness but of true love and brotherhood. Without saying a word, they embraced each other and resolved that there would be no division now. The fields, the house, and life – everything would remain together as before.
The Decision: The Two Reunited Again
Ramu and Shyamu made a b decision together. They decided that there would be no division of the land now. Just as their father had managed all the land together, they would both work hard in the fields and share whatever they earned equally.
This decision came from their hearts. There was no greed or stubbornness involved. There was only the feeling of brotherhood and trust in each other. They had understood that true happiness lies in staying together.
An Example for the Villagers
When the news spread in the village that Ramu and Shyamu had not divided their land, but instead, had sacrificed for each other, everyone was astonished. Where relationships usually break down over land disputes, these two brothers won everyone's hearts with their love and understanding.
The elders and the youth of the village said that if such brothers existed in every home, there would never be any disputes. Many people learned from them and started trying to resolve their household disputes through dialogue. Ramu and Shyamu became a true example for the village.
