Supreme Court Refuses to Intervene in DDA's Order to Demolish Three Temples, Directs Petitioners to High Court. Temple Management Accuses Authorities of Non-Hearing.
Delhi News: Religious committees approached the Supreme Court against the Delhi Development Authority's (DDA) order to demolish three prominent temples located in Mayur Vihar Phase 2. These temples include the Purvi Delhi Kalibadi Samiti, Shri Amarnath Mandir Sanstha, and Shri Badrinath Mandir Samiti. On the night of March 19, 2025, the DDA issued demolition notices, giving a deadline of 4 AM on March 20.
Supreme Court's Decision – Petitioners Directed to High Court
A petition was filed in the Supreme Court to prevent the demolition, but the apex court refused to hear the case, advising the petitioners to approach the Delhi High Court. The petition, filed through advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, stated that officials affixed the notice at 9 PM and decided to demolish the temples without prior notice.
Questions Raised on Demolition Order
The petition alleged that the DDA did not provide any opportunity for hearing to the temple administration or the religious committees. The temple management claims these temples are approximately 35 years old, and the DDA itself had permitted the Purvi Delhi Kalibadi Samiti to organize Durga Puja in front of the temple complex. Therefore, classifying the temples as encroachments and ordering their demolition is deemed unfair.
Local Outrage
The DDA's action has sparked b resentment among local devotees and worshippers. Devotees claim the temples are centers of their religious faith and that the administration should reconsider its decision. Local protests are anticipated.
