Chief Minister Fadnavis states that while they wish to relocate Aurangzeb's tomb, it is protected by the ASI. The Congress has attacked the BJP, while Sambhaji Bhosale has also demanded the tomb's removal.

Maharashtra: Demands for the relocation of Aurangzeb's tomb in Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, have intensified. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Congress, Shiv Sena, MNS, and several other parties have voiced their opinions on the matter. Chief Minister Fadnavis stated that his government also wishes to remove the tomb, but it is a site protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), a designation it received during the Congress government's tenure.

BJP-Congress Dispute

The Congress has cornered the BJP over this issue. Congress leader Nana Patole stated that while Fadnavis served three terms as Chief Minister, blaming the Congress is inappropriate. He argued that the current government has full authority and can make its own decisions.

BJP Leaders Advocate for Tomb Removal

BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar stated that he had a clear stance on this matter even when he removed illegal encroachments from Afzal Khan's tomb. He claimed the Maha Vikas Aghadi government wanted to retain Aurangzeb's tomb, while the BJP advocates for its removal. Shiv Sena leader Sambhajiraje Desai said that the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister will discuss the matter with the central government.

Shivaji's Descendants Also Support Tomb Removal

Sambhaji Bhosale, a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, also supported the demand for the tomb's removal. He stated that Aurangzeb's tomb has no place in Maharashtra and that no one should feel uncomfortable because of its presence.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Bala Nandgaonkar said that Aurangzeb, a persecutor of Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj, does not deserve to have his tomb in Maharashtra.

Abu Azmi's Remarks Fuel Controversy

Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi defended Aurangzeb, stating that calling him a cruel ruler is incorrect. He accused filmmakers of creating a false image of him. However, following the escalating controversy, he clarified that he could not even imagine saying anything against Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj. He alleged that his statements were misrepresented and offered an unconditional apology.

Case Filed Against Abu Azmi

A case has been filed against Abu Azmi in a Maharashtra police station following his controversial remarks. His statements have further heated political tensions and intensified the debate surrounding Aurangzeb's tomb. It remains to be seen what decision the government will take on this issue.
