Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed for Bangkok to attend the BIMSTEC Summit. He will hold bilateral talks with Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left for Bangkok, Thailand, to participate in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit, scheduled for April 4, 2025. During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will also engage in bilateral talks with Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. This will be Prime Minister Modi's third visit to Thailand.
Three-Day Visit to Thailand and Sri Lanka
Announcing his trip on the social media platform 'X', Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that he will be visiting Thailand and Sri Lanka over the next three days. He emphasized that the primary objective of this visit is to further strengthen India's relations with both countries and other BIMSTEC member nations. Prime Minister Modi mentioned that in Bangkok, he will meet with Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to discuss various facets of the India-Thailand friendship. Furthermore, he will also meet with the King of Thailand, Maha Vajiralongkorn.
At the 6th BIMSTEC Summit, Prime Minister Modi's address will primarily focus on regional cooperation, economic development, and enhancing connectivity among member nations. India considers BIMSTEC a crucial platform for regional integration and economic prosperity.
Focus on Sri Lanka Visit
Following his visit to Thailand, Prime Minister Modi will undertake a state visit to Sri Lanka from April 4th to 6th, 2025. This visit follows the recent trip to India by Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe. Prime Minister Modi stated that during his visit, the multifaceted India-Sri Lanka friendship will be reviewed, and new avenues for cooperation between the two countries will be explored.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi, stated that the Prime Minister's visit will further bolster India's 'Act East' policy. Through BIMSTEC, India aims to strengthen strategic, economic, and cultural ties in South and Southeast Asia.
