Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 72 others accused of plotting to incite civil war. CID registers case, begins investigation into a meeting of 577 individuals.

Bangladesh: Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is facing another accusation. A case has been filed against her in the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, naming her and 72 others as accused. They are alleged to have conspired to incite civil war in Bangladesh and overthrow the interim government of Mohammed Yunus.

Accusations related to the 'Joy Bangla Brigade'

According to police officials, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh registered the case following a court order in Dhaka, charging them with conspiring to overthrow the interim government. The case stems from an online meeting held on December 19, 2024, where those involved allegedly formed a platform called the 'Joy Bangla Brigade,' planning to incite civil war and reinstate Sheikh Hasina to power.

577 people participated in the meeting

Police reported that a total of 577 people from Bangladesh and abroad participated in this meeting. The meeting was convened by Alam, the vice-president of the Awami League's US chapter. Alam is named as the second accused in the case. The meeting decided that they would follow Sheikh Hasina's orders and prevent the legitimate government from functioning peacefully at any cost.

Increasing number of cases filed against Sheikh Hasina

This is not the first case filed against Sheikh Hasina. Following violent student protests in Bangladesh last year, she was forced to leave the country and has since sought refuge in India.

Since her removal from power, she has been implicated in over 100 cases, including serious allegations of mass murder and corruption. Many Awami League leaders have also been accused in these cases, some of whom have sought refuge abroad. Following Sheikh Hasina's ouster, Mohammed Yunus assumed leadership of the interim government.
