Inspired by the ‘Ghar Wapsi’ (Return Home) campaign in Bastar, 29 Naxalites have surrendered. These include 21 Naxalites from Dantewada and 8 from Narayanpur district. A total reward of ₹55.50 lakh was placed on their heads. The Naxalites will receive incentives and facilities under the Chhattisgarh government's Naxal eradication policy.
Bastar: Influenced by the ongoing ‘Ghar Wapsi’ campaign in Bastar, Chhattisgarh, 29 Naxalites surrendered to security forces on Wednesday. Among them, 21 are from Dantewada district and 8 are from Narayanpur district. The surrendered Naxalites had a total reward of ₹55.50 lakh on their heads. The Naxalites took this step after becoming disillusioned with the hollow ideology of the Maoists. Police gave them incentive checks and informed them about the facilities available under the Chhattisgarh Naxal eradication policy.
21 Naxalites Surrender in Dantewada District
In Dantewada district, 21 Naxalites, including Keye alias Kesha Lekam (24), a member of Company No. 1, surrendered. Kesha Lekam had a reward of ₹8 lakh on his head, while six Naxalites had ₹2 lakh each, five Naxalites had ₹1 lakh each, and one Naxalite had a reward of ₹50,000.
According to the police, the Naxalites took this step after being fed up with the hollow ideology of the Maoists and inspired by the ongoing ‘Ghar Wapsi’ campaign. The surrendered Naxalites were accused of offenses such as attacking police parties, digging up roads, cutting down trees, and putting up Naxal banners.
8 Naxalites Surrender in Narayanpur District
In Narayanpur district, eight Naxalites with rewards totaling ₹30 lakh also surrendered to security forces. These include Sukhlal Jurri (33), Hurra alias Himanshu Midiam (25), Kamla Gota (32), Raju Podiam alias Sunil Podiam (33), Deepa Punem, Maniram Korram (20), Sukku Farsa alias Nagesh (18), and Ramu Ram Poyam (23).
Officials stated that Jurri and Hurra each carried a reward of ₹8 lakh. The other Naxalites had rewards ranging from ₹1-5 lakh. So far this year, 148 Naxalites have surrendered in Narayanpur district.
More than 390 Maoists Return to the Mainstream
Inspired by the surrender and rehabilitation policy of the Government of India and the Government of Chhattisgarh, over the past 18 months, a total of more than 390 Maoists, including 99 Maoists with rewards on their heads, have abandoned violence and returned to the social mainstream in Dantewada district.
So far, 1,042 Maoists have surrendered in Dantewada and the bordering districts of Bastar, Bijapur, and Narayanpur, including 837 male and 205 female Maoists.
Help and Facilities for Naxalites
The surrendered Naxalites will be provided with an incentive amount of ₹50,000 each and other facilities under the Chhattisgarh government's Naxal eradication policy. This initiative will not only rehabilitate the Naxalites but will also help in establishing lasting peace in the Bastar region.
