Medha Roopam, the District Magistrate (DM) of Gautam Buddh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, has suddenly deactivated all her social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter).
Lucknow: Medha Roopam, the District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, has deactivated her social media accounts on Facebook, X, and Instagram. She took this step due to continuous trolling. Medha Roopam came into controversy on social media when her father, Gyanesh Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India, held a press conference addressing the allegations made by the Congress, Samajwadi Party, RJD, and other opposition parties. Following this, Medha Roopam, along with her son-in-law Manish Bansal, the District Magistrate of Saharanpur, were subjected to trolling on social media.
Social Media Trolling as the Reason
According to reports, Medha Roopam's decision to shut down her social media accounts was prompted by the continuous trolling she had been facing since last week. This trolling began when her father, Gyanesh Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India, held a press conference addressing the allegations made by opposition parties. After Gyanesh Kumar's press conference, both Medha Roopam and her husband, Manish Bansal, the District Magistrate of Saharanpur, were targeted on social media. Netizens questioned their postings, family connections, and administrative work style.
On social media, many people even questioned how Medha Roopam received two postings in Noida. It is noteworthy that before being appointed as the District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar, Medha Roopam served as the CEO of the Greater Noida Authority from 2023-2024.
Medha Roopam and Her Husband's Postings
Medha Roopam, a 2014 batch IAS officer, was appointed as the District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar by the Uttar Pradesh government on July 28, 2025. Her husband, Manish Bansal, was made the District Magistrate of Saharanpur on June 25, 2025, of the same year. Their administrative responsibilities and public postings became a topic of discussion on social media, further intensifying the trolling.
Due to the increasing pressure and mental stress from social media trolling, Medha Roopam deactivated her Facebook, Instagram, and X accounts. Subsequently, she stated that she has not yet filed any complaint, but necessary action will be taken in the future. According to the Hindustan newspaper, Medha Roopam said: "No complaint has been filed yet, but definitely, a complaint will be lodged in the future, and action will be ensured."
