417 Postgraduate Seats Remain Unfilled in Narnaul Government Colleges; Portal Reopening Urged

417 postgraduate seats remain vacant in seven government colleges in Narnaul. Vacancies are particularly high in MA Sanskrit and MCom. College management has requested the DHE to reopen the portal based on demand from students and parents.

Narnaul Colleges Admission Update: As many as 417 seats in postgraduate (PG) courses are still vacant across seven government colleges in Narnaul district. The highest number of vacant seats are observed in traditional subjects like MA Sanskrit, MA English, MCom, and PGDCAs. College management attributes this to a declining interest among students and parents towards traditional subjects. Consequently, they are urging the Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) to reopen the admission portal to fill these vacant seats.

Admission Status in Colleges

The admission process in the seven government colleges has concluded, yet a significant number of seats remain unfilled. The PG College in Narnaul has 110 vacant seats, while Government College, Ateli, has 135 vacant seats. Additionally, Government Girls College, Ateli, has 16 seats available, followed by Mahendragarh with 7, Satnali College with 6, and Mahendragarh College with 14 seats still open for admission.

Shifting Student Preferences

Experts believe that today's students are prioritizing courses in computer science, management, and competitive exam preparation over traditional subjects. This trend is reflected in the lower enrollment numbers for subjects like Yoga, MCom, and Sanskrit. College administration indicates that this shift in preference is also noticeable at the undergraduate level.

Demand to Reopen the Portal

College administrations and parent organizations are demanding that the Directorate of Higher Education reopen the portal for admissions to fill the vacant seats. Nodal Officer Dr. Satish Saini stated that many students are still visiting colleges for admissions, making it imperative to re-open the portal to ensure these vacant seats are filled. He also mentioned that a request has been made to open the portal for UG second and third-year admissions as well.

Portal Open for Undergraduate Admissions

Meanwhile, the portal for undergraduate first-year (UG) admissions remains open until August 28. Students can visit colleges with vacant seats to apply and submit their fees on the same day. This provision has been implemented to facilitate students and parents.

Reasons and Solutions for Vacant Seats

College management points to reduced interest in traditional subjects and students' inclination towards other courses as the primary reasons for the vacant seats. Furthermore, while there was considerable online inquiry during the admission process, the actual admissions did not reach the expected numbers. In this context, college administrations believe that reopening the portal will offer an opportunity for students and serve as a solution for the colleges.

Requests Sent by Colleges

Nodal officers of the colleges have formally requested the Directorate of Higher Education to reopen the admission portal by sending a letter. The letter details the vacant seats and highlights that students are still visiting colleges for admissions, and reopening the portal can help fill all the available seats.

Student and Parent Reactions

Both parents and students are enthusiastic about filling the vacant seats. They believe that reopening the portal will enable many students to enroll in their preferred subjects. Parents opine that while student interest in traditional subjects is declining, students are willing to enroll in these courses if opportunities are provided.
