Legal troubles have escalated for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Chaitar Vasava. A court in the Narmada district has rejected his regular bail application in a case of attempted murder. The court based its decision on the MLA's criminal history and the apprehension of influencing witnesses. Vasava was arrested on July 5th in connection with a disputed case.
Court Accepts Apprehension of Influencing Witnesses
Additional Sessions Judge A.V. Hirapara, while hearing the case on July 14th, stated that 18 criminal cases have been registered against Chaitar Vasava since 2014. The court said that the facts presented by the prosecution made it clear that if Vasava were granted bail, he could influence witnesses, thereby obstructing the justice process.
The court also noted that an audio-video had surfaced in which Vasava was heard saying that if he did not get bail, he would cause damage to government offices and jails. The court also remarked that although Vasava claimed to have been acquitted in earlier cases, he did not present authentic copies of any of those cases in court.
Cases Registered Under Serious Sections
Chaitar Vasava is charged with attempted murder under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). In addition, he faces serious charges including outraging the modesty of a woman (Section 79), voluntarily causing hurt (Section 115(2)), criminal intimidation (Section 351(3)), intentional insult (Section 352), and damage to property (Section 324(3)).
The entire controversy arose during an official meeting in Dediapada, where Vasava became upset over the non-inclusion of one of his supporters in the committee. According to the FIR, he used abusive language towards the female president of the Sagbara Taluka Panchayat. When Dediapada Panchayat President Sanjay Vasava protested, the MLA allegedly attacked him by throwing a mobile phone. Subsequently, Vasava also picked up pieces of glass and threatened to kill, although the police immediately stopped him.
Strict Stance of the Court
Considering all these facts, the court stated that it would not be just to grant bail to Chaitar Vasava under the present circumstances. Furthermore, the court also mentioned another case from 2023 in which Vasava was sentenced to six months for assault and was later released on probation.
