Anant Chaturdashi 2025: This year, the festival of Anant Chaturdashi will be celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm across the country on September 6th. This festival is considered special for the worship of Lord Vishnu, tying the Anant Sutra, and observing a fast. Women observe this fast for the good fortune and prosperity of their families. It is believed that observing this fast for 14 consecutive years ensures a life free from lack of happiness, prosperity, and success, and paves the way to Moksha (liberation).
Fasting Rules and Beliefs
Certain foods are prohibited during the Anant Chaturdashi fast. It is believed that consuming salt on this day negatively impacts the family and its repercussions can be faced for 14 years. It is said that eating salt diminishes the prosperity of the household and increases discord. Therefore, those observing the fast should abstain from salt on this day.
What Fasting Individuals Can Eat
Those observing the fast can eat potatoes, sago, sweet potatoes, fruits, fox nut kheer, sweets, and dishes made from barnyard millet flour. All these are traditional fasting foods, considered sattvic and easy to digest.
Special Worship and Remedies
Tying the Anant Sutra with 14 knots on Anant Chaturdashi is considered most auspicious. To overcome financial difficulties and family disputes, after the puja on this day, 14 cloves and one piece of camphor are placed in a kalash (pot), which is then circulated throughout the house before being placed at a crossroads. Chanting the mantra "Om Anantaya Namah" and reciting special stotras to gain the grace of Lord Vishnu brings peace and spiritual advancement in life.
