Apple has set a new sales record for the iPhone, selling 3 billion units, marking a significant milestone. The company achieved this figure since the launch of the first iPhone in 2007. Apple CEO Tim Cook announced this achievement during the Q3 financial earnings call for 2025.
Tim Cook stated that the company has sold 1 billion iPhones in the last 5 years alone, demonstrating the continued growth in popularity of the iPhone and the brand's b hold. In this quarter, Apple has earned $94.94 billion (approximately ₹8.22 lakh crore), showing a year-on-year growth of 10%.
2 Billion iPhones Sold in 8 Years
Tim Cook mentioned that the iPhone accounts for approximately 50% of the company's total business. It took the company nearly 10 years to sell the first 1 billion units, but the next 2 billion units were sold in just 8 years. However, he did not specify the exact year in which the 2 billion milestone was reached.
The company's innovation strategy is considered a key reason behind the iPhone's success. According to Tim Cook, the Pro models of the iPhone feature the A18 Pro processor, a Pro camera system, and advanced AI features, making them special for high-end users. Meanwhile, affordable models like the iPhone 16e have also created a special place among users. This model has features such as better battery performance and a 2-in-1 camera system, which attract mid-range buyers.
iPhone 16 Becomes Bestseller in India
The popularity of the iPhone is continuously increasing in India as well. According to a recent report by Counterpoint Research, the iPhone 16 was the best-selling smartphone in India in the second quarter of 2025. Apple's dominance in the premium smartphone segment has further strengthened.
Most notably, iPhones manufactured in India are now surpassing models made in China. Made in India iPhones have not only seen increased sales in the domestic market, but they are also being exported in large quantities to the United States, Europe, and other Western countries. This clearly indicates that India's manufacturing capabilities are rapidly improving, and Apple is showing confidence in this.
