AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi called the revision of the electoral roll in Bihar a hastily taken decision. He questioned how Bangladeshis who came to India after 1971 have become infiltrators today.
Bihar: The special revision process of the electoral roll in Bihar is heating up the political atmosphere. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, while questioning the Election Commission's decision, has said that it is a decision taken in haste. Along with this, he has targeted the BJP and RSS over the questions being raised regarding the Bangladeshis who came to India after 1971. Owaisi has asked how those who were allowed to come to India can be called 'infiltrators' today?
Question raised on electoral roll
The political environment has become heated over the special revision and verification of the electoral roll in Bihar. Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has already questioned this process and now AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has also raised this issue bly.
On Monday, Owaisi reached the Election Commission office in New Delhi and registered his objections before the officials. He said that if 15-20 percent of the voters' names are removed from the list due to the revision, then these people may be deprived not only of the right to vote, but also of citizenship.
'We are not against revision, we are demanding time'
Owaisi made it clear that his party is not against the review of the electoral roll. However, this process should not be completed in haste. He said that the impact of deleting names from the voter list is not limited to electoral rights only, but it also affects a person's identity, benefits in schemes, and many social rights.
He told the Election Commission that it is the rainy season in Bihar at this time. The rural and poor sections do not have the necessary documents. The BLO (Booth Level Officer) has not received the handbook. In such a situation, voters are facing difficulty in adding or retaining their names.
Fear in the name of Bangladeshi infiltration
In his statement, Owaisi directly targeted the BJP and RSS. He said that it is being repeatedly spread that infiltration is taking place from Bangladesh in border states like Bihar and Bengal. Questioning this, Owaisi said, "After the 1971 war, the Indian government had allowed some people to come to the country on humanitarian grounds. How have those people become infiltrators today? If they are infiltrators, then why were they allowed to vote in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections?" Owaisi said that this is just a political agenda. The BJP and RSS are trying to scare the people of the minority community by using this issue.
