Asha Bhosle died on 12 April 2026 at the age of 92 due to multiple organ failure, after being admitted in critical condition to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on the night of 11 April.
She was hospitalised a day earlier under medical supervision, where doctors were treating her condition. Initial reports had suggested a heart attack, but her family later clarified that she had been suffering from a chest infection that gradually worsened, leading to her death.
Final Wish Remained Unfulfilled
In the final years of her life, Asha Bhosle continued to express her deep commitment to music. In a podcast interview a year ago, she had shared her wish to continue singing until her last breath.
She had said that she wanted to leave the world while singing, describing music as her life and stating that she had lived with it since childhood. This wish remained unfulfilled at the time of her death.
Career Spanning Over Eight Decades
Asha Bhosle’s career extended over more than 80 years. She recorded thousands of songs and sang in multiple languages, earning recognition across countries. Her work covered a wide range of genres, including classical, pop, ghazal, and film music.
At the age of 90, she continued to perform live on stage. Although she had distanced herself from Bollywood in recent years, her association with music continued.
She was last seen on 5 March 2026 at a private event in Mumbai, where she attended the wedding of cricketer Arjun Tendulkar.
Condolences from National and International Figures
Condolences were expressed by several prominent figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Members of the film and music industry paid tribute and acknowledged her contributions.
Her funeral will be held on 13 April 2026 at Shivaji Park in Mumbai at 4 pm. Prior to that, the public and fans will be allowed to pay their respects at her residence between 11 am and 3 pm.
