Bihar: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inspected the construction work of the Bakhtiyarpur-Tajpur Greenfield Bridge on Sunday. This bridge is being built over the Ganges River, and its completion will create a new direct connectivity route between North and South Bihar. It will also reduce traffic pressure on the Mahatma Gandhi Setu and the Rajendra Setu. The Chief Minister instructed the officials to complete the construction work expeditiously.
60 percent of construction work completed
According to the Road Construction Department, approximately 60 percent of the Bakhtiyarpur-Tajpur Greenfield Bridge has been completed. The total length of this bridge is 5.5 kilometers. The Chief Minister visited the bridge site and took stock of the latest construction progress. He clarified that there is no shortage of funds for this project. The state government will meet all the requirements of the construction work.
New Connection from Bakhtiyarpur to Tajpur
This Greenfield bridge will start from Karjan (Bakhtiyarpur-Mokama Four-lane Bypass) and will connect Tajpur in Samastipur district after crossing the Ganges River via Kalyanpur. This will establish a direct connection between National Highway 31 (NH-31) and National Highway 28 (NH-28). Sandeep Pudukalkatti, Secretary of the Road Construction Department, briefed the Chief Minister on the complete plan and progress of the bridge through a site plan.
Construction of Approach Roads and Other Structures Also Underway
Under this Ganges Bridge project, a 16.2-kilometer-long approach road from Tajpur to Chaklalshahi has already been completed. In addition, the construction of the approach road from Karjan to the Ganges Bridge, a Railway Overbridge (ROB), and other supporting structures is also being carried out rapidly. The completion of these structures will make traveling on the entire route even smoother.
Ease of Movement, Benefit for Tourism and Medical Services
Once this bridge is completed, traveling between North Bihar and South Bihar will become much easier than before. The current traffic burden on the Mahatma Gandhi Setu and the Rajendra Setu will be reduced, and travelers will get an alternative route. Vehicles coming from Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, and Begusarai towards Patna will now have a new option, which will also save time.

Several senior officials were also present with the Chief Minister during the inspection of the bridge construction. These included Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Deepak Kumar, Development Commissioner Pratyay Amrit, Secretary of the Road Construction Department Sandeep Pudukalkatti, Managing Director of Bihar State Road Development Corporation Sheershat Kapil Ashok, Secretary to the Chief Minister Kumar Ravi, and Commissioner of Patna Division Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh.
