Bangladesh created history by defeating Australia by five wickets in the second One-Day International in Dhaka to secure an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The victory marked the first time Bangladesh have beaten Australia in an ODI series.
Bangladesh had already taken the lead in the series after winning the first ODI by 86 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis method. With the second victory, Bangladesh sealed the series with one match remaining.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Australia endured a poor start at the Dhaka stadium. Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed dismissed Matthew Short for a duck in the opening over. In the following over, Mustafizur Rahman removed Cooper Connolly and Matt Renshaw without either batter scoring, leaving Australia under immediate pressure.
Following the early setbacks, Marnus Labuschagne and Xavier Bartlett attempted to rebuild the innings. The pair added 103 runs for the seventh wicket. However, Australia continued to lose wickets regularly and were reduced to 81 for six by the 22nd over.
Labuschagne remained unbeaten on 55, while Bartlett contributed 52 runs. Their partnership helped Australia reach a competitive total.
Before rain interrupted play, Australia scored 187 for eight in 42 overs. Due to adverse weather conditions, the Duckworth-Lewis method was applied and Bangladesh were set a revised target.
For Bangladesh, Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman claimed three wickets each, while Tanvir Islam took two wickets.
Following the rain interruption, Bangladesh were given a target of 192 runs in 41 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis method.
Bangladesh also made a poor start to their chase, losing Tanzid Hasan Tamim off the second ball of the innings. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Soumya Sarkar then steadied the innings with an 86-run partnership for the second wicket.
Shanto scored 41 runs, while Soumya made 42.
Bangladesh appeared to be in trouble at 144 for five, but Towhid Hridoy and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took control of the chase.
The pair added an unbeaten 51-run partnership to take Bangladesh to the target. Hridoy remained unbeaten on 40, while Miraz scored 22 runs.
Bangladesh's bowling performance proved decisive, with Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman putting Australia under pressure in the opening overs.
The victory secured Bangladesh's first-ever ODI series win over Australia and ensured a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
