Sports News: Major changes are coming to the selection committee of the Indian cricket team. Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar's tenure was recently extended to June 2026. In addition, there is news of two new selectors joining the panel. According to Cricbuzz, the BCCI will make two new appointments to the selection panel, with the deadline for applications being September 10th. The board has not yet clarified who will replace whom, but it has been indicated that the two new selectors could come from the Central and South Zones.

Preparations for New Recruitment in BCCI

According to a Cricbuzz report, the BCCI will soon begin the process of making two new appointments to the selection committee. The deadline for applications for this is set for September 10, 2025. Although the board has not clarified who will replace whom, it has stated that the new selectors could be from the Central and South Zones.

Sources suggest that former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha could replace S Sharath from the South Zone. Sharath's term has ended, and Ojha is considered the frontrunner to take his place. Meanwhile, the name of the selector from the Central Zone has not yet been decided.

Eligibility for the Post of Selector

The BCCI has kept the required qualifications and experience for becoming a selector the same as before. These include:

  • Experience of 7 Test matches or 30 First-Class matches
  • Candidates who have played 10 ODI matches or 20 First-Class matches will also be considered
  • The contract of selectors is renewed annually

A BCCI official stated that it is not yet decided which current selectors will be replaced. The appointment process will begin soon, and it will significantly impact the team selection for Team India's upcoming series and tournaments.

Current Selection Committee

Currently, the selection committee is headed by Ajit Agarkar. Apart from him, the committee includes the following members:

  • SS Das
  • Subroto Banerjee
  • Ajay Ratra
  • S Sharath

All of them recently approved the Indian team selection for the Asia Cup 2025. The selection committee's job is to select teams at both the senior and junior levels, evaluate players, and strategize for upcoming series. Former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha is known in Team India for his expertise and experience.

He has played many important matches for the Indian team and has made special contributions to the spinning department. Ojha's potential appointment as a selector could help Team India in the skill development of spinners and young players. Ojha's appointment would bring technical insight and match analysis expertise to the selection committee. This move is also considered beneficial for the BCCI, as Ojha can deeply assess the performance of the team's senior and junior players.
