A 21-year-old student, Jeevan Gowda, has been accused of raping a female classmate in the college bathroom at a private engineering college in South Bengaluru. Police have arrested the accused and sent him to judicial custody.

Bengaluru: An alleged incident of rape involving a female student has come to light at a private engineering college in South Bengaluru. The accused student has been identified as Jeevan Gowda (21). Police have arrested him and sent him to judicial custody. Police stated that the incident occurred on October 10, while the victim filed a complaint on October 15.

According to the FIR, the accused and the victim knew each other previously and were classmates. On the day of the incident, the victim had met Jeevan to collect some items. The accused repeatedly called her to meet him. When the victim arrived, Jeevan allegedly tried to forcibly kiss her and followed her towards the elevator.

Accused Threatened the Victim

The FIR states that after the incident, Jeevan Gowda called the victim and intimidated her by asking if she needed pills. This further distressed the victim mentally.

Initially, the victim hesitated to file a police complaint due to social pressure and fear. However, she later narrated the entire incident to her parents, and accompanied by them, she reached Hanumantanagar Police Station to file an official complaint.

Police Arrest Accused, Begin Investigation

Hanumantanagar Police arrested the accused and sent him to judicial custody. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 64 of the Indian Penal Code.

Police have also taken statements from the college administration and begun examining CCTV footage from the college campus. Officials want to ensure that the accused did not engage in any other inappropriate activities with anyone else during or after the incident.

Questions Raised Over College Security and Surveillance

This incident has raised serious questions about student safety and surveillance on the college campus. The effectiveness of the CCTV cameras and security arrangements at the college is being reviewed.
