Patna: Following a crushing defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, the Indian National Congress has now adopted a strict stance to restore discipline within the organization. While the party leadership has initiated a process of introspection after the election results, steps have now been taken towards direct action against leaders found guilty of indiscipline and negligence.

In this regard, the Bihar unit of the Congress issued show-cause notices to 15 District Presidents on Tuesday.

Absence from Review Meeting Proves Costly

According to party sources, an important Review Meeting was held on Monday at Sadaqat Ashram in Patna. The objective of this meeting was—

  • Deep review of the reasons for electoral defeat
  • Identification of organizational weaknesses
  • Deciding future electoral strategy

However, despite prior intimation, several district presidents did not attend this important meeting. The state leadership considered this a serious lapse and a violation of organizational discipline. The very next day, notices were issued to these 15 district presidents, seeking their formal responses.

Party Leadership's Strict Message

Congress state president Rajesh Ram and Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru clearly stated during the meeting that the party would no longer tolerate laxity at any level. They emphasized that districts are the backbone of the organization, and if district units remain inactive, it will be difficult to strengthen the party.

The leadership also made it clear that performance-based accountability would be implemented in the coming time. Leaders who do not actively work for the organization will face phased action.

A Difficult Period for Congress in Bihar

In the recent Bihar Assembly elections, the Congress's performance was significantly weaker than expected. The party faced defeat even in many traditional bholds. Political analysts state that a weak grassroots network, lack of coordination in leadership, and unclear electoral strategy were major reasons behind the party's defeat.

The party leadership has now concluded that revival is not possible until discipline and accountability are established within the organization. This is why disciplinary action is now being initiated from the grassroots level.
