In the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) has declared Tejashwi Yadav as its Chief Ministerial candidate. The Congress and its allies have expressed support. While there are some internal differences over seat-sharing, the NDA has also finalized its formula for candidates and seats.
Bihar Election 2025: The strategy of the opposition alliance for the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 is now clear. The Congress has officially declared Tejashwi Yadav as the Chief Ministerial face of the Mahagathbandhan. During a press conference in Patna, Congress MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh stated that the Mahagathbandhan would form a united front against the BJP-JD(U) alliance, and talks on seat-sharing are ongoing.
Additionally, Congress MP Tariq Anwar from Katihar also supported Tejashwi Yadav as the Chief Ministerial candidate. Anwar stated that both alliances should immediately clarify their Chief Ministerial candidates. The opposition has agreed on Tejashwi Yadav, while the NDA has already reiterated that their Chief Ministerial face for the Bihar elections will be Nitish Kumar.
Internal Challenges for Mahagathbandhan in Seat-Sharing
Despite finalizing the Chief Ministerial candidate, the Mahagathbandhan is facing several internal challenges in seat-sharing. The Congress released its first list late Thursday night, comprising 48 candidates. However, disagreements persist among the allied parties.
Notably, the dissatisfaction of Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani is a topic of discussion. According to sources, Sahani is not satisfied with the proposed seat-sharing arrangement. Congress MP Tariq Anwar also admitted that some mistakes were made and seats should have been decided in a timely manner.
NDA's Seat-Sharing Finalized
Meanwhile, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has finalized its seat-sharing formula. The BJP and Janata Dal (United) will contest 101 seats each. Additionally, other NDA allies have also received their share of electoral seats.
Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi's Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Kushwaha's Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) will contest 6 seats each. Furthermore, Union Minister Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has been allocated 29 seats. This NDA formula is considered crucial for election preparedness and maintaining balance within the alliance.
