A British tourist was seriously injured after falling into a deep gorge while trekking on the Dev Tibba trekking route in Manali, Himachal Pradesh. The injured tourist was rescued by a joint team of administrative authorities, the fire brigade and rescue personnel before being taken to hospital for treatment.
The accident occurred in the Dev Tibba trekking area near Manali when George Richmond, a citizen of England, lost his balance while trekking along a difficult mountain trail and fell into a gorge.
He sustained serious injuries in the incident. People accompanying him immediately informed the administration and local authorities, following which rescue agencies were mobilised.
The rescue operation was challenging due to the high-altitude location and difficult terrain. Teams from the administration, fire brigade and specialised rescue units launched a coordinated operation at the site.
After several hours of efforts, rescue personnel reached the injured tourist. Following initial medical assistance, he was transported to a safe location on a stretcher and then taken to Manali Hospital, where he remains under medical supervision and treatment.
The Dev Tibba trek is among the popular trekking routes in Himachal Pradesh and attracts large numbers of domestic and international tourists each year for trekking and adventure activities.
The route is also considered challenging because of its steep ascents, narrow trails and rapidly changing weather conditions.
Following the incident, the administration appealed to tourists to strictly follow safety guidelines while trekking. Officials said trekkers should use trained guides, stay informed about weather conditions and carry necessary safety equipment while travelling in high-altitude areas.
Police and administrative authorities also advised tourists to avoid attempting difficult trekking routes without adequate preparation. Officials stated that adherence to safety standards can help reduce the likelihood of such accidents.
The injured British tourist continues to receive treatment, and doctors are monitoring his condition.
